Todd Sladek Bags Overall Chip Lead As 32 Advance From Day 1B Of MSPT Canterbury Park
Created (2/17/2019 1:34:40 AM by Admin System)

Day 1B of the MSPT Canterbury Park attracted 272 entries, which along with Day 1A's 207, brought the total field to 479 runners. The top 54 players will get paid a minimum of $2,084, while the winner will take home a $99,573 first-place prize.

After nearly 15 levels of play on Saturday night, just 32 players survived with Todd Sladek and his 423,000 stack leading the way. That puts him ahead of Day 1A chip leader Amir Tavanae and his 364,000 chip stack. The Illinois based Sladek will be looking for his fourth MSPT Main Event cash.

Others to bag big include Tyler Kolness (377,500), Mark Feil (357,000), Alex Moua (311,000), and Eric Atchison (305,500).

Others that were able to navigate the field to Day 2 include Matt Alexander (273,500), Chicago’s Cody Brinn (229,500), Season 9 MSPT Canterbury Park Regional champ Saad Ghanem (224,500), MSPT Hall of Famer Rich Alsup (213,000), former MSPT champs Tom Stambaugh (154,000), Ben Wiora (121,500), and Carl Carodenuto (120,000), and Steve Wazwaz (67,000).

Of course, not everyone managed a bag today. Some of those include reigning MSPT POY Aaron Johnson, three-time MSPT champ Blake Bohn, Minnesota Poker Hall of Famer Mike Schneider, former MSPT champs Ahmed Taleb, Jason Ramos, Jason Sell, Mike Shin and Joe Matheson, former MSPT Regional champs Craig Trost and Paul Cross, Ryan Phan, Ian Matakis, and Alex Winter.

Day 2 will get underway at 11 am on Sunday with 57 players (25 from 1A, 32 from 1B) returning to action.

Be sure to join us tomorrow as we bring you all the action straight from the tournament floor of the MSPT Canterbury Park Main Event!

Created (2/17/2019 1:12:58 AM by Admin System)

Shadrach Tercy raised to 8,000 from the hijack, and Jason Houselog three-bet jammed for 84,000 on the button. Tercy, who was covered by just a few thousand chips, tanked for some time before making the call.

Tercy:
Houselog:

Houselog’s kicker proved best on a board, and Tercy was sent packing just a few minutes short of the end of the night.

Alex Vollbrecht Can't Hang On Against Mark Feil
Created (2/17/2019 1:00:31 AM by Admin System)

Mark Feil

Reg Powell raised to 7,500 from UTG, and Mark Feil called from UTG+1, as did Todd Sladek in the lojack. Alex Vollbrecht three-bet jammed for 51,000 from the hijack, chasing out Powell. Feil thought for a moment before making the call, and Sladek folded what he claimed were two sixes.

Feil:
Vollbrecht:

Feil picked a gutshot up on the flop, and counterfeit outs on the turn. The river gave him aces-up and the winner, eliminating Vollbrecht.

Paul Carney's Jack'd Up
Created (2/17/2019 12:55:16 AM by Admin System)

With four limpers in front of him, Paul Carney jammed his remaining 47,000 from the big blind. His huckleberry came from the cutoff with about 80,000 at the start of the hand.

Carney:

When flop hit the felt, Carney would take a crushing lead. His opponent would need to hit runner-runner to win.

When the hit the turn, it was a sweat for Carney headed to the river.

Carney’s opponent would fall short when the hit the river.

Cody Brinn Gets It Through...Maybe
Created (2/17/2019 12:32:16 AM by Admin System)

Cody Brinn

A player raised to 5,500 from middle position, Cody Brinn called in the cutoff, Paul Morton called in the small blind, and the big blind called as well.

Everyone checked through the flop, and action checked to Brinn on the turn. Brinn bet 9,000 and only the big blind called.

The fell on the river, and the big blind checked again. Brinn plunked in 50,000, enough to put the big blind all in for his last 48,000. The big blind tanked for around five minutes before the clock was called. The big blind let the thirty seconds tick off, and his hand was declared dead.

“Woo!” Brinn said after the hand was killed. “Got it through, got it through!” Todd Sladek told Brinn from another table.

Brinn just replied, “Maybe.”
